Message from Publisher:

As I celebrate my 50th year in the cover business and publisher of the "Z" Silk cachet, I want to introduce those of you who are not familiar with covers with a quick review of what they are and why they are a truly limited commemoration of history.

Now a cover is just an envelope which has no collectible value until you:

  1. Have it postmarked
  2. Place a picture (cachet) of the event on the envelop
  3. Print a short write-up of the event

The covers of course must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service on the day of the event or game. If the event takes place today, they must be Postmarked today. They have no value if Postmarked yesterday or tomorrow.

Now in order to have it postmarked with Today's date, they must be in the post office before midnight. The Post Office will not backdate any covers It's against the Law. The hard part is getting the envelopes to the city where the event took place in a hurray before midnight. We get a load of frequent flyer miles trying to make it in time, and we don't always make it.

After the post office postmarks the date, they return them to us at which time we have a hot gold border applied, then a brief story of the event.  A silk or photo cachet is then applied by hand to each cover to complete them.  They make an excellent collectable to have autographed.

The "Z" Silk cachet was the only cachet officially licensed by Major League Baseball for all 28 teams including the Brooklyn Dodgers, the New York Giants, Roberto Clemente and Jackie Robinson. Now Photofile licensed with all leagues, teams and players is continuing the tradition. We are proud to be its distributor, this now makes available thousands of new photos for cachets and actual photos of the events, all fully licensed by MLB, etc.

Please keep in mind that these covers are issued in Limited Editions.  Some quantities are as low as 25, and unlike baseball cards, by law they can't reissue them.

Our covers are listed in many price guides, including the Krause "Complete Guide to Baseball Memorabilia" among others.
